During the autumn term we have had some great experiences in school. The children have made new friends in their classes and settled in really well to school routines. All of the staff are so proud of their growing resilience in daily activities and we just wanted to share some of the fabulous things we have been up to in school. The children have enjoyed our topics on Autumn and Festivals, using hands on experiences to link these topics to their long term memory and support further learning this year.

We had a visit from the local librarian who showed us some of the things we can borrow from Acomb Explore library, she then read us a book which we were then able to take home and keep. The staff were so proud of how respectful the children were as they listened to a different person read them a story.

Our local community police officer Sue came to visit us. She talked about all the different things she does in the community before she read us a story about police officers do lots of things to help us in lots of different ways. She wanted to introduce herself in case we saw her around the local area and school and she was kind enough to let us try on some of her spare uniform. The jackets were very heavy!

We also had a visit from our local dentist this term to develop our understanding of healthy teeth. She taught us all about the importance of brushing our teeth every day, she showed us the best way of brushing by making circles and working along each tooth. She also told us what types of food are good for our teeth. The children showed resilience in brushing their teeth every day in school for 2 minutes during our healthy teeth week.

The children showed great teamwork whilst preparing for their Christmas concert with Miss Hall and we had two brilliant performances for our families. The children showed their confidence by singing and dancing on the stage and we were so proud that every child was involved. Thank you to all the grown-ups who came, we hope you enjoyed it too.

We have also had two sets of workshops with our Family Learning leader Katherine too and if you would like to join us in the New Year we have some phonics sessions planned for January, look out for your invitation in January.
