Expressive arts and design
Expressive arts and design is the children’s opportunity to express themselves using all of the skills they have learnt throughout the curriculum.
Exploring and using media and materials:
Our children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function. We encourage the children to share their creations, explaining the processes they have used. We support the development of fine motor skills through carefully selected challenges at our workshop and children enjoy seeing their beautiful work displayed around school. The children use role-play opportunities to use props and costumes to support their imaginative play.
At home you could encourage your child to explore colour mixing with paints and scissor skills. Children can snip cress or playdough before trying to cut paper.
Being imaginative:
At Westfield Primary Community School we have regular singing assemblies with Miss Hall and the children love learning new songs to support their learning in school. We also encourage the children to take part in actions and dance to help recall songs and rhymes. Children invent, adapt and recount narratives and stories with peers and their teacher to support their own imagination and develop their confidence in making up their own stories. Children are encouraged to perform songs, rhymes, poems and stories with others to develop confidence.
