At Westfield, we believe that a high-quality science education provides the foundation for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Science has changed our world on a personal, national and global level and as such, we strive to develop the children’s understanding of scientific ideas by providing opportunities for the children to explore the world around them. We want our children to be equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
We aim to stimulate a child’s curiosity by building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts. Our teachers encourage children to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring; develop methods of different types of scientific enquiry and carry out purposeful investigations which support and further our learning.
We implement a curriculum on a 2 year rolling programme that is progressive throughout the whole school. Our Science topics have been carefully thought out so that they support, further and inspire the current topical learning that we are undertaking.
