At Westfield, We aim to ensure every child becomes a confident writer by equipping all children with the skills to communicate their ideas, knowledge and emotions through their writing. Immersive and explicit modelling of the writing process supports each child in learning to develop their own independent composition.
For our children to be successful writers, they need immersive experiences that will inspire and captivate their attention. We maximize every opportunity through a variety of provided experiences and activities. These include: drama, music, film, artefacts, powerful written texts loaded with textual features, pictures, newspaper articles, or experiences such as visits. These are used to inspire creativity, imagination and excitement and give the children the confidence to explore and share new ideas
Our children are exposed to a rich and varied vocabulary through discussion and word collection. They experience words in context through teacher modelling and learn how to choose the most precise word for their specific purpose.
