Special Educational Needs Coordinator is Rachael Thomas, supported by Lindsay Illingworth.

At Westfield Primary Community School we firmly believe that all children have an entitlement to be educated alongside their peers. As an inclusive community we are committed to developing inclusive cultures, policies and practices.  We actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual pupils, or groups of pupils.  This means that equality of opportunity must be a reality for our children.  We make this a reality through the attention that we pay to the different groups of children within our school.

At Westfield Primary Community School we are committed to high achievement for all, supporting children and their families in making the best of the opportunities available to them.  All children should have the opportunity to feel valued, to experience success and feel positive about themselves. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to get in touch.'

We produce an annual report on our work with children with special educational needs or disabilities. See attached Special Education Needs Information Report.

The Children and Families Bill requires City of York to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs aged 0-25. This is the Local Offer.

The intention of the Local Offer is;

to improve choice and transparency for families

to provide an important resource for professionals in understanding the range of services and provision in a local area

to inform the joint commissioning process for children and young people with SEND by setting out in a single place what is available locally

It is central to the ethos of the SEND Green Paper which set out a vision of a new, transparent and holistic SEN system that the Local offer is co-produced with children, young people and their families.
