At Westfield Primary Community School, we are committed to ensuring that every child can take part in all areas of school life, removing financial barriers so that no pupil is excluded. We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive through a rich range of experiences, including trips, extracurricular activities, and special events. We work closely with families to provide support where needed, ensuring that all pupils feel included, valued, and able to participate fully alongside their peers. By fostering a caring and inclusive environment, we aim to build confidence, encourage curiosity, and create happy memories for every child, regardless of their background.

Pupil Premium/Free School Meals

All children in Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 receive Universal Free School Meals. Following the successful pilot carried out from January 2024, thanks to the support of the City of York Council, all children in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 will also continue to receive free school meals for the foreseeable future.

Although all children in Reception to Year 6 currently receive free school meals, we encourage families to apply for Free School Meals. Doing so entitles children to receive free milk daily and also enables the school to receive additional funding, known as Pupil Premium. This funding allows us to support initiatives such as our Children’s Champions, additional resources for smaller class sizes, and tailored support for individual pupils, helping every child to reach their full potential. KS2 Fruit Fund

At our school, we believe that a nourished child is a ready learner. While the Government’s fruit and vegetable scheme provides snacks for children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, we are committed to ensuring no child goes hungry during the morning session. Since 2024, thanks to our dedicated fundraising efforts, we have successfully expanded this provision to include all students in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6. By providing a healthy snack to every pupil regardless of age, we help combat mid-morning hunger and maintain high levels of concentration across the whole school. We are proud to continue this initiative for as long as our community funding allows, ensuring a healthy, equitable start to the day for every child.

Trips and Residentials

We are committed to providing families with clear information about upcoming trips and their associated costs as far in advance as possible, enabling parents and carers to budget and plan ahead. We aim to communicate openly and in a timely manner, giving families sufficient notice to make arrangements and seek support if needed.

The Community Hub

The Community Hub is a located on the left hand side of the school building as you enter through the main gate on Askham Lane.

The Hub is a great resource for all our families to access. At the moment it provides food and uniform to anybody who would appreciate it. This provision is made possible with the support of local food charities, supermarkets and local businesses.

For further details, contact the School Office.
