On Tuesday, our Year 3 children had Road Safety Training with the team from York Council. They spent the morning learning the fundamentals of staying safe near traffic - learning everything from the "Stop, Look, Listen, Think" sequence to identifying safe crossing spots. We were so proud of how seriously the children took the sessions.
While the children learnt a lot on Tuesday, road safety is a skill that grows with practice. We encourage families to:
Keep the conversation going: Regularly discussing road safety during your daily walk to school.
Model the behaviour: Remind children why you're choosing a specific crossing spot or why you're waiting a moment longer.
Quiz them: Ask them to "lead" the way and tell you when they think it's safe to cross.
