Since our return, our Early Years children have been exploring the wonders of the Arctic, discovering fascinating polar animals, and learning about igloos. They've also been observing the magical transformation of ice as it melts. A perfectly timed topic given the recent cold weather!
Our Key Stage 1 children have loved the start of their new topic 'We are Chocolatiers'. They have learnt about Nestle and used their drawing skills to illustrate a KitKat. Did you know 7 million KitKats are made in York everyday?! In Year 2, the children have logged on to Natterhub to learn about healthy screen habits.
Lower Key Stage 2 have also made an amazing start to their topic, 'The Terrible Tudors'. We spent our immersion day learning about life in a Tudor school. We were shocked to find that most girls did not attend school and that boys often started school at 7:00am! As part of our immersion day, we created our own 'hornbooks' and practised writing in Latin using a quill and ink.
This term, Year 5 and 6 are studying World War 2 and spent their immersion day thinking about how people kept safe during the bombing. The children learnt about Anderson shelters and their crucial role in the war. Did you know there were approximately 3.6 million shelters installed in gardens to keep families safe? The children have started planning and building their own shelters - we're excited to see them develop over the next few weeks.
