Please see the attached letter from the City of York Council regarding national changes to Free School Meals (FSM) starting September 2026.

What is changing?

From September 2026, all children from households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to FSM. Families receiving certain other benefits may also be eligible.

Why do I need to apply if my child already gets free meals?

Although all of our children currently receive free school meals due to the Hungry Minds Project, which started in January 2024, we still need our families to apply if they meet the eligibility criteria.

When you register, our school receives extra money called Pupil Premium Funding. This funding directly supports your child's learning. In recent years, we have used this money to:

  • Employ our Children’s Champions to support pupils.
  • Fund additional teachers to keep class sizes smaller across the school.
  • Provide targeted, individual support for pupils who need it most.

What do you need to do next?

  • If you already get FSM: You must reapply to ensure the school continues to receive this vital funding.
  • If you think you might now be eligible: Please apply below.

How to apply

To make this as easy as possible, school can complete the check on your behalf. Please fill out our Google Form (Free School Meal Eligibility Check) with the following details:

  • Your name and contact details
  • Your National Insurance Number
  • Your child’s/children’s name and date of birth
  • Your consent for the school to run the check
