Dear parent and carers

It has been wonderful to see the children return to school and to welcome many new families to Westfield. The first two weeks have certainly flown by and the children have quickly settled back into the routines of school.

Since our return, the children’s attendance and punctuality has been superb. We know that every moment in school matters and continue to see a direct correlation between good attendance and pupil outcomes. There are only a few circumstances where a child is allowed to miss school, such as illness or where the school has given permission because of exceptional circumstances. At Westfield, honesty is one of our core values. The children are excellent in upholding this and love sharing their adventures with us. If school has reason to believe families have provided false reasons for children’s absence, school will complete home visits and, if necessary to satisfy our safeguarding duty, will consider the involvement of other services. Thank you for your support with this.

During the summer, a number of changes to national attendance guidance came into effect. There have been some significant changes - mostly affecting unauthorised absence (including holidays) - which are summarised on the attached posters. Please do spend a couple of minutes to familiarise yourself with these. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We have lots to look forward to this term. Our Facebook page will be updated regularly with events, information and photos so keep an eye out for updates.

As always, if you require any support or advice about attendance or punctuality, we are on hand to help. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards

Claire Gomez
